A110R Alonso Unveil
Event / Show / Creative Direction / Concept / 3D Design
Needs & Goals
While originally the client wanted to have a Toge Hill Climb race and a drift city stunt, the main challenge laid in the fact that no city based location would allow for drifting, given the tire marks, the smoke and the noise that it entails.
Even Ebisu Circuit proved challenging as it was in no way closer towards Suzuka, the final leg of the Japan tour. This caused us to choose the drifters paradise of west Japan, Okuibuki.
From a goals perspective, the main needs we had to fulfill were that the F1 driver(s) would need to come to site and get exclusive time with the media, a breathtaking unveil moment would be needed for the A110R Alonso and the media needed exclusive time with the Alonso.
Design & Challenges
A helicopter, 5 different media groups that all want their own exclusive time, drifting around people, a project full of risks and no margin for error.
Like for SOKO, a digital version of the site was created using photogrammetry.
Based on this complete digital twin, every aspect of the show was pre-planned, from the drifting action down to the night-time setup.
Using the digital twin, almost every detail down to the sunset and light conditions on the day could be simulated, and being blessed by the weather, the afternoon was actually sunny providing exactly the predicted light conditions.
Outcomes
See below the comparison of the mock-up/digital twin (left) and actual videos and photos from the event (right).
